YOUR RIGHTS - PACKAGE HOLIDAYS

Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 What services the package holiday company is legally
liable for etc.

HOW TO COMPLAIN

STEP ONE - Complain
immediately by contacting the rep or the UK Head Office of the Package
Company.

STEP TWO - Gather
Evidence. Ask for a complaint form from the rep. Keep a diary. Take
photos or video. Get names and addresses of other holidaymakers experiencing
the same problems.

STEP THREE - Put
it in writing within 28 days of returning home. Write to the Tour Operator.
State the facts. Do not write flowery adjectives. State how much compensation
you are seeking - based on:

(a) Loss of
Value. That is the holiday you thought you had bought and booked
is not what you received. Loss of Enjoyment. Food inedible, noise
etc. Out of Pocket Expenses - Keep receipts of having to eat
out every night if the food was inedible or cleaning materials if the
place was grubby etc.

Send all your
correspondence by recorded delivery and keep copies. Members of ABTA
are required to acknowledge within 14 days and provide full replies

BE SENSIBLE It is correct that a package holiday company is responsible for every
part of the package - including the airline and all transport that is
stated in the package but be relaxed about your holiday and don't complain
about minor matters - (the tea was cold on the aeroplane etc) complain
only about major inconveniences or services that you did not receive
and were part of the package. Because REMEMBER one day you may have
a real complaint and let real complaintants who have had a dreadful
time get their rightful compensation.
